jersey royal potatoes

mint-jersey-royals.jpg

i’m not a big potato fan and rarely buy them but whenever jersey royals come into season i just have to indulge. these little potatoes, grown only on jersey, have a wonderfully buttery flavour.

my first taste of the season is always of potatoes which are simply boiled with some mint. a drizzle of extra virgin olive oil and a few extra fresh mint leaves is all i need. or is it? what do you do with your favourite potatoes?

hi abs, i love cooking brand new little spuds the swedish way, i.e., with crowns of dill (if you can get them here) in the cooking water, and then very simply served with some chopped fresh dill scattered on top alongside a knob of cold butter and some sea salt. nothing quite rings in the summer like it! if you serve some other new veg next to it--fresh radishes, steamed tiny carrots, little beets, tender pea shoots, etc--it would constitute a meal in its own right. Yum!

I love new potatoes with a mayonnaise and finely diced onion, especially with cold roasted meats.

wow julia, that's really unusual to a non-swede. and i'm very intrigued by dill crowns - i'm not a big fan of the herb (too many "vegetarian" meals smothered in the stuff when i've been in eastern europe) but would like to try them.

angela - i do like that sort of potato salad too but never make it myself. how silly of me!

You should cook Jersey new's whole with mint (do not over cook) and server with good salted butter, thats the only way I ever cook them.
