first courgette

today i learnt about the difference between male and female courgette flowers - the female ones produce the courgette apparently. as soon as i got home i rushed into the garden to inspect my plant, expecting male flowers only but was thrilled to find this - my first courgette! i'm enjoying this gardening lark.

presumably this means i should remove the male flowers for cooking with - any and all advice on this welcome!

The nicest thing I ever did with courgette flowers is to stuff them with leftover seafood risotto, and then dip them in a light batter mix, and shallow fry them. They were A MAZ ING.

Yay! Congratulations! Your courgettes are ahead of mine. I've been gorging on beetroot leaves these last few weeks...

that's a brilliant idea for the flowers lillyanne - thank you. i'm struggling to get any more flowers at the moment though - pesky ants ond other creatures! however, very excitingly (for me at least!), i'm about to pick that first courgette.
